How Community Supports You Through Your Healing Journey

The company you keep matters.

We thrive on getting together in groups to learn, as there is so much support and shared wisdom to be had. Finding other people who are on the same journey can be very uplifting as you find someone else who truly understands what you are going through.

Social connection is more important for our wellbeing than the combination of stopping drinking, smoking, eating junk food, and exercising.

Seeking out those who are positive and uplifting, and spending more time with them has a lasting impact on our wellbeing. Being around those who are happy, healthy, and successful is much more likely to result in adopting the same habits. The opposite is also true.

“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” Mahatma Gandhi.

Active contribution to others in your community is a great way to improve connection and reduce loneliness and depression.

While social media is a way of being in touch, in-person connection and contact can give us a much more powerful boost.

Common examples of ways people can connect include workshops, walking groups, book clubs, social gatherings, or going for a cuppa or meal with family or friends. Joining a class or hobby group also has the benefit of learning and empowerment.

There are so many benefits to being part of a community, and the most important is that you are not alone at a time where there is much emotional turmoil. There’s nothing like the comfort of being able to talk to someone else who is listening, and often that’s all we need. This helps us to cope more effectively with the situation and make better decisions.

In our supportive community, there is the common goal of being on a healing journey so we can learn and grow from the combined wisdom of the group. The sharing of love and knowledge from a wide range of skills and life experiences is deeply empowering.

Being a part of a community is the backbone of wellness. Together, we learn and grow; build trust and support one another; form friendships through understanding and respecting our individual and collective needs. We connect socially to experience true empathy and compassion, as everyone is on the same path.

Confidentiality allows honest communication and builds strong bonds of trust between members of the group. Our philosophy is: what we discuss in the group, stays in the group.

A journey together is always stronger than a journey alone.

Wainui Wellness encourages community support. Our Radical Hope Workshops focus on building community support.
